i really like the idea with the long quest although you should not start in droks because that would mean you have to be ascended - and that's not what we want ;-)
but basically, i like the idea.
what do the others think about it?

i havent read throught the whole thread so i dont know if this has been mentioned yet.
instead of some "uber" boss at the end, how bout your party fights yourselfs instead of a boss monster. it would be similiar to the doppleganer cept with however mnay people are in the party and they would be much smarter then the ganer to say the least. Also the lvl would be higher then the parties so that it wont just be a "walk in the park" sort of speak. now that... would be fun

well, it's not only highlvl.
first of all i think it's kinda nice when you play the catacombs in the tutorial, get there in pre-searing with your lowlvl-character and cannot play there and then with level 12/13/14/i don't know you come back there and enter the area again.
and i mean we wanted it to start with medium-strength enemies so you can get there with around lvl 13 or something and then it should get more difficult with every layer. so it's not really a typical "highlvl-area".
regard
@mortez: i'm going to do this tomorrow ... have to catch at least a little sleep now -_-

Instead of doing each level progressively - what if they had separate entrances.
For example if you enter from the Sardelac Sanitarium the mobs are level 6 to 10. Then you could go to the next level after completing and reaching the Catacomb Outpost for that end. Then you could enter from Yak's Bend and the mobs would be level 10 to 15. Entering from Yak's Bend puts you at the level 2 outpost in the Catacombs. Make Lion's Arch for level 3 with mobs level 15 to 20. Henge of Denravi for level 4 with mobs level 17 to 22. And Droknar's Forge level 4 with mobs level 20 to 24.
Of course you could progress through each level and reach the level outposts.
Maybe make the entrances away from the towns/outposts as well. Like the Voice of Grenth Temple in Lornar's Pass used to be an alternate entrance to the Underworld.

i updated the petition a little.
on the bottom right corner of the page there is a little link now which leads to a gaphical statistic of the petition.
also the "fighting your own doppelgangers instead of a strong boss monster"-idea is shown now ^^

also make it a 16 to 20 person instance, so the larger guilds can go.....make the boss a level 50 and tough as glint to kill (if you had an 8 man group)

i think this is a good idea but i do not think anet will realize things like this in any way. i mean the maximum group size is 8 and that's gonna stay i guess.
but good idea anyway ^^

Catacombs were the best part of my Pre-sear experience. Back on my first char I was a little mad it was gone

Maybe deldrimor dwarves have sent a little excavation party there to look for an ancient artifact/book about the Unspoken (which was mentioned in the Alkar quest) and set up camp in one of the lower levels?

Loved the cats in pre-, and they were definitely conspicuously missing in post.
I'd like something like the Diablos, where the maps would be randomly generated after each layer, with randomly chosen mob configurations... and with a boss at the end of the layers, heh.
That'd be great.

/Signed. I made this very topic on guild-hall.net and it went pretty well.
Anyway my idea was to make it so as there would be stairs that formed from rubble from the cieling above the huge pit with Undead Warriors and Raging Cadavers. So maybe that could add-on to your ideas of how you first get down to the second layer. Btw,I could bring up my ideas on how you reopen the Catacombs. You know so it doesn't seem like Anet just went,"Ok,we're opening the Catacombs again."

I would love to see more closed in areas like deep caves with tighter winding tunnels and such. More clausterphobic (did I spell that correctly?) areas would be wonderful and the Catacombs were the only ones there really was.
PS. Catacombs, IMO, had some of the best atmosphere in the game.
